Welcome back for the final installment of our San Diego Podcast!

Here we continue to prattle on about The Avengers, talk about the future of San Diego Comic-Con and sneak in a last minute bit about the forthcoming Walking Dead show on AMC. It’s not the longest episode in the world, but it still knows how to satisfy.

Welcome back for Part 2!

A lovely episode that includes a materialistic indexing of what we purchased at the show (him - much, me - not much), a detailing of Mr. Tunney’s Hollywood experience, a rigorous and misguided shit talking of Alex Ross’s booth, and the potential awesomeness that is the forthcoming Avengers film.

In the final moments, 2Hands mutters the word ‘film flam’. I simultaneously respect him both more and less…it’s like Schrödinger’s cat IN PODCAST FORM.

So, here we are…fashionably late to the party, as per usual.

SDCC Day 01 - FROM THE EYEZ OF 2HANDS

So it’s actually happening right now. I just got back from dinner with Cody eating an obscene amount of different foodstuffs that were all crammed into one delicious burger and I feel pretty horrendous. I am tired, my ankles hate me, I have far less money now than when I woke up this morning (at 6am by the way) and I’m wearing nothing but bath towels because honestly, my body is so sick of me it just wants to be left alone. It feels a lot like day one of San Diego Comic Con and it feels fantastic.

So from the get go this won’t have any photos of the show cause honestly I don’t have any. Mainly because my camera phone is probably older than the last girl I kissed and also because I really did not invest much thought into this whole ‘documenting thing’. I can already tell I’m gonna regret making that girl joke.

Anyway, so this morning I tracked down Frank Kozik of smoking vinyl toy and Kidrobot fame and hung out at his stand for a bit while he tried to figure out how to use his credit card machine so I could buy one of his giant white Smorkin’ Labbits. There’s something reassuring about meeting a guy who is super super cool and talented that still needs his wifey to bail him out of technical difficulties like the rest of us.

Then I kind of stumbled upon Street Fighter legend Seth Killian aka S-Kill carrying one of the new Madcatz Sticks. If you’re wondering how a famously obsessed SF player like myself dealt with this encounter, well I looked up in shock and said ‘OH SHIT’, he laughed at me and then he walked away. Scene.

I copped the new artbooks from my homies in the Satellite Soda crew and got bare free prints because their fearless booth leader Dave Igo has more charisma than everyone yet still remains super super nice. This following scenario also unfolded…

I managed to also grab Cannabis Works, the book by Japanese super artist Tatsuyuki Tanaka. This guy blows me clean away. You may have seen his work in the Utada Hikaru video for Wonder Bout - Fluximation with his insane detailed and dynamic animation style.

After I also ran into Kevin Dart of Yuki 7 fame and bought a totally gorgeous faux-movie print of Yuki 7 in an homage to the classic Japanese tall movie poster format.

After my consumerist whilrwind tour of the con floor was concluded (for now) I had to get to the Marriott hotel to film my part in the upcoming Joss Whedon/Stan Lee produced, Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) directed documentary ‘Comic Con Episode 04: A Fan’s Hope’. It’s a while since I’ve been in front of the cameras (you may have caught my short-lived career as live artist and back-up geek on Tony Wilson’s final TVshow The new Friday on Channel M a while back) but the crew were awesome and I had a great time getting my nose powdered and posing for photoshoots and ‘putting the question into the answer. That powdered nose thing wasn’t a euphamism by the way, I’m not that Hollywood. Assuming they don’t cut my ass and leave me on the editing room floor I should be coming soon to a theater near you.

I got to play the Scott Pilgrim game. I got a 66 hit combo, I love multi-hit combos. Quite a fun game overall. Captures the energy of early 90’s 4 player beat ‘em ups wonderfully.
